Well, like it or lump it, the club have confirmed Pardew is still gonna be gaffer.

I suppose he can't be any worse than this wretched season... famous last words?

I think he should get another season - he's had one bad year and one exceptional year. Lets see how he does next season when we'll have the pre-season to work with our expanded team and hopefully some reasonable goalscoring threats to replace Cisse when he's not doing so well. Plus, fingers-crossed we won't have the same amount of injuries as last year.

In some ways, I think the expectations have ramped up to high after the 5th place finish (with the majority of fans, not necessarily the guys on here). We overperformed that season and underperformed this season.

I think the majority of fans didn't expect to go further from top 5, especially given our failure to strengthen.

Then again the majority of fans expected better than 16th. Surely that is reasonable expectation given the squad at our disposal, even despite all the injuries.

Certainly we should be higher than 16th. But, I think just to expect us to repeat getting into Europe this season would have been too high an expectation.

But in some ways things went our way for most of last season, and things didn't go our way for the most part this season. We won a lot of games with Cisse scoring world class goals last season - and unsuprisingly he hasn't managed to repeat that this season.

Obviously, it's not all luck and we have played badly for a lot of this season.

It was a poor season. It happens.

Loads of fans Newcastle would criticise Chelsea for sacking Di Matteo soon after winning the CL. Yet call for Pardew's sacking less than a year after winning two manager of the year awards. I think he's definitely got enough credit for another few months to fix things.

Also any criticism than mentions fifth place is totally unfair, that's punishing Pardew for overachieving.

Newcastle should be aiming for a top ten finish, perhaps pushing for a Europa League spot. I can't see next season being as bad as the one just finished.

Wasn't Cisse outplayed almost the whole season because of the team's injuries?

Wasn't Cisse outplayed almost the whole season because of the team's injuries?

He played 36 league games - one missed because of Tiote being a nob against Sunderland and getting a red, and one because FIFA upheld a complaint from Senegal and banned him from a game. I think.

I don't think it helped him that Pardew kept playing him out wide. For instance, away at QPR, he was wide left. He'd also been wide right a lot of the time. Surely you'd actually play wide-men in that role?

Aye, he's played out wide a lot this season but even when played upfront he doesn't look the same player - hopefully it was just a blip and he'll be back next season.

I don't think expecting us to finish between 6th-12th is an unreasonable expectation. On paper our team is on the same level as Swansea/West Brom, who have finished in these areas. And we're not far off the likes of Liverpool and Everton.

No it's right he's not looked the same player all season. For the first half I thought it was just Demba Ba wanting the limelight/prime shop window, but after he left Cisse still didn't look the player he did in the 2011/12 season.

But then, as has already been discussed ad nauseum, a lot of players have looked shadows of their selves from the previous season.

I think Cisse has been good, too much was expected from him after last season but he's still scored some important goals for us even though the service to him has been pretty shocking at times. He's a very limited player really, just an out and out poacher, the only way we're going to get the most out of him is if we have good players around him, when he's relied on to do it by himself he's found wanting.

Earlier in the year, Pardew said he would be interested in taking Carroll back.

A couple of weeks ago I think Llambias came out and said that we wouldn't be interested - but I suppose that could be due to how much we're willing to spend.

Last season wasn't that awful imo. An EL qf is a decent achievement, considering you've played against the team that should have won the trophy.

It was a great season in Europe, but in England we were routinely awful.

Cisse's agent is claiming a big money move to Russia is possible, with other reports indicating Rubin Kazan or Anzhi have offered £15M. Because when we only have 1 striker that's any good, the thing you want to do is sell him.

I don't know what to expect this summer tbh. We clearly need at least 4-6 players (maybe more depending on departures) but how likely Ashley will be to part with his cash is debatable.

Given how Cisse played this year selling him for £15m and signing Carroll with that money isn't the worst business ever.

I'd sell Cisse for anything above 15m tbh.

Nevermind - turns out the Cisse rumour was bollocks spurted by someone who "hasn't represented him for some time"

If we can get £20M+ for him and buy three good strikers then we're laughing. But I daresay that might be too much to ask for, not least given Pardew's tactics means whoever comes in will wind up on the left wing.

Motherwell have confirmed they're hosting us in a pre-season friendly in July.

It's amazing how Everton compensated for the collapse of this South Africa tournament by getting into a tournament with Real Madrid in the USA, and we look set for games with Motherwell, Rangers and Blackpool.

In fairness to JFK, had he not suffered his heart problems before the away game at WBA in 08/09, he could well have kept us up - I daresay he could have bettered the 6 points we managed after the West Brom game. Hell, he could well have got the one additional point that could have kept us up.

But why on earth he's been bought back, and to a fairly pointless role that Dennis Wise handled exceptionally poorly, is a mystery. It's fucking stupid.
