I asked the board for an upgrade and there is no cash ... so how can I improve with no money ... how?

If a manager does a shoddy job and still makes Champions League how am I performing satisfactory ... Brisbane haven't been in the Champions League in the last 5 years. Get on the bus board and join the party.

Thank You and good night! Surely surely surely I cannot be doing that badly?

My first season in Australia was going to be a bumpy one. A club who was having an identity crisis and has seriously fallen from grace. A chairman who can no longer support the club and a squad lacking on talent or quality. The aim was simple, bring players in and make the side competitive. This is a minimum 3 year project, at the end of that 3 years I will decide if I continue or leave. It might not work but I am confident it would. Was not so long ago that the Roar were competing for A-League titles. It is time they do so again.
Mixed bag. We don't have the quality yet all the way through the squad to compete against the bigger sides. However we can hold our own and some of our victories are testament to that. Yet we can be blown away by sides like we did against the Wanderers when we lost 5-0. If the side continues to develop these results will develop too. Have the faith and back the boys.
We did well this season and we made the eliminator rounds at the end of the season. Sadly our little slump in the last game of the season saw us drop from 3rd to 5th. Not to panic as we made well above our season target of 7th. Next season we will be aiming to get there or there abouts and we can do so. I would like to be up in the top 3 next season and make a push in the Eliminators.
We gave the Cup competition a real go. Sadly it ended with a strong showing against the powerful Newcastle side. Next season we are aiming to go to the semi finals again and hopefully make an appearance in the final. It is tough competition but something I am relishing doing.
The new squad gelled well. Lots of good performances and lots of positives. However some players are not good enough and they will be looked to shipped on come end of the season. I suspect one or two bargain bucket players will join. We can be a good side and that is testament to how quickly these players have learnt the system. Sides don't enjoy the possession based football we adopt and that frustrates them. If we keep our heads this group will go on to do good things.
17 players arriving of which 16 were Australian qualified. I fluttered the last of the cash in hope they would come through. Sadly only Tran Anh Tuan has come through. Mitchell Eskander is a late bloomer and will come good eventually. The rest won't. Sad as it maybe. Lots of deals out and next season we shall see another turnover of players.
Finances are not great, lets not make any bones about it. We are in dire straights. New chairman has rocked up, put some money in and taken a big loan out. The squad is under the salary cap and further cutting it will make the squad not competitive. I am hedging my bets that Duffy and Keen give us some financial safety. I will continue to deal in scraps and free transfers. Really, I'm going to be operating a Moneyball scheme here.
Key Player Profiles:
Frank Duffy. The 18 rated penalty taking goalkeeper. Funny fact, we had NO penalties this year and would have loved to see this guy take them if we do. Stole on a free transfer from the FFA COE and this guy has really developed under the amount of first team football. As you can see his stats are on the rise and I am sadly hoping he will rocket up in value so we can make a profit on him.
Jai Keen the next Harry Kewell in my eyes. Lad has potential and has really progressed since I plucked him from our Academy. Again like Duffy he will be sold when a good bid comes in. I don't like operating like that but it will have to be done.
Caitlin was released by Melbourne Victory and his previous season form would suggest what are they doing. Was outstanding for us at the back. A real rock. Looking to tie this man down for a long deal at the club. Looking for him to be capped for Australia too.
Tran Anh Tuan is going to be one of my favourite players in this journey. Literally this guy is class. He appears all over the pitch. Bosses the right wing and has appeared to have a shot in front of goal on a few occasions. Looking forward to this guy playing next season and really help developing the side.

Next Season
Next season is all about working as hard as we can and go back and compete in the league further. We have progressed nicely this season. Next season will dictate just how much by.

So the board had a cunning plan all along. Smart move boys, smart move.

Nothing to do with me buddy. All to do with the board. I asked for one and they couldn't find one for me. Now they have.
I had to show you guys this signing. Unreal find if you ask me. International record is silly. On a free cannot say no to. Lot of decent Asian international for the smaller nations knocking about on the cheap or on free's will be looking to take advantage of course.
Cymro
Get to the bookies and put some money on us ... not to win the league hahaha. Joking. Under the radar job mark. II
Johno
Wow, insane record. Surprised he's tad bald even he's 24
How did you find him? player search or scouts?
Cymro
I stumbled upon him. I went into the player search and went for players with 'x' amount of international caps and expired contracts. Bang this guy turns up. In the past I tend to scout and look at the lesser international nations around the area I play and I tend to find one if not two gems that fit the system I tend to play. Sometimes you can sign them up and sell them on for big profits, in particular in European leagues. However it is a risky business to do.

Great hairline, ala Rooney.
Unbelieveable, a young Australian Chilavert!
So the rumours are circulating that I may well be off. Not of my own choice but likely that of the board. I will really be gutted if I don't get a new contract. I have really enjoyed my stint with this club. There is some fantastic youth, despite seemingly clashing with the board I feel I have done a good job. Time will tell.

So with just 7 weeks left of my current deal, I was eventually offered a new deal. I did request that facilities, youth and feeder clubs to be expanded and I was told a simple no. Frustrating but something that is out of my control.
Only a month or so a go he was happy to see me leave, now he is delighted. Make your mind up ... please?
This man ... oh this man. Likely hood is I will look leave come end of my third year here, despite any progress I make in the league or if I get there the Champions League.
Cymro
So my second season in Australia and just over half way through my plan time with the Roar. The club has not been looked after previously, which is very surprising but I no doubt believe the previous owners did not help this. I am certainly looking to improve results on and off the pitch. The squad is fairly settled but the experienced boys want out. I have granted them their wish. Sadly for them no one wants them. The youngsters don't care and just want to play. Instead I will develop them.
Started off amazingly well, sides just could not cope with us. Tired bodies meant our season ended less well. I know we have a few things to do to adjust that but we managed to secure a top spot in the regular season. Hopefully we can do the same next season, but it is unpredictable. All depends on how other sides strengthen themselves. The 5-2 victory over the Wanderers was the real highlight of the season, in a game were we should have scored another 5 goals.
Came away as A-League Finals champions. Required a monster 16-15 win in the semi final penalty shoot outs against fierce competitive rivals the Central Coast Mariners. I thought we were going to bottle it and actually closed my eyes because I couldn't bare to watch. The final was something magical. I wasn't expecting to win, let alone by the margin we did. Widiantoro was unbelievable. Everything he touched turned to goal. An absolute steal of a signing.
Required others around us to lose on the last day to ensure we ended as regular season champs. Did we deserve it? Well on our form at the start of the season, but towards the end we drifted and drifted hard. Goal difference saved us.
When I started the season I was targeting this competition. Relatively straight forward win this competition. Just a little extra time required to see of a spirited but a poor Newcastle side, before playing lower league side Melbourne Knights. Fantastic, I was really pleased to win this, as were the fans.
The new squad gelled well. Lots of good performances and lots of positives. However some players are not good enough and they will be looked to shipped on come end of the season. I suspect one or two bargain bucket players will join. We can be a good side and that is testament to how quickly these players have learnt the system. Finances are still a mess. No matter what I do, the club is losing money. I was hoping for big pay days from Duffy and Keen, might have underestimated how quickly their values might rise. Not much, so selling them at this point is pointless. Need to ensure we qualify and venture deep into continental football.
Key Player Profiles:
Clut was an interesting player for us. Not the best stats but has performed remarkably in the system the club has adopted. His playing time is likely to be cut a bit next season for two reasons. I have agreed a pre-contract deal with an Australian international who plays in the same role as this guy does, but also Clut is prone to the odd injury. So he will be managed far more carefully next season.
The Duffster scored 8 goals from goal this season, of course all from the spot. He has developed well and has featured for the U20s national side. He has been very much instrumental for the club. Hopefully next season he can continue to improve and possibly a move into Europe.
Widiantoro is nothing short of a phenomenon. A-League top goalscorer and player of the season. Absolute monster.

Next Season
Next season is all about working as hard as we can to ensure we go back and win domestically again. The Champions League has gone well and the update for that will come out soonish. I really want to have a go at that competition, ideally love to win it before I leave here. If I don't I won't be fussed ... to much.

So when I won the FFA Cup the fans were really pleased that I managed some silverware. It was great to receive the praise from them.
Then the board don't think it is that important. Some gents, every piece of silverware is important. Especially when you don't win anything for over 10 years.

Again fans are happy. If they are happy, then so am I.
Glad to smash a 14 year old record.
The board ... take note. There is something special happening here.

We just about scrapped into the groups by beating a very strong Shandong side. Uwara showed us that football would not be easy on the continent and it was an eye opener. I was confident we would actually win the game, however it was not the case. However it was relatively straight forward in the groups. We did managed to sneak a draw against Uwara, which shows we are good enough to compete with the best.
When we drew F Marinos I was dreading it. They are the current holders of the Champions League. However at home we managed to show the big guns who were are and what we are about. Away we built our lead but Marinos came back and we just about managed to hold on for the win thanks to the away goals rule. We saw off a buoyant Persepolis side but in reality they were poor and we should have dispatched them off sooner. Then it came to the final were we met Uwara again. Knowing how we played against them in the groups I was confident we could sneak the tie at home and hold on away. That was the plan and we executed it well. At home I could not believe my eyes when we smashed them 3-0. We played some fantastic football. However away we just about held on, a great save in the dying minuets by Duffy ensured we secured victory. Completely against the form book and all. I honestly did not expect this and I honestly have not cheated. I'm now in my third year with the club and probably at the conclusion of this season I will begin to look at other clubs.
Sold out the Suncorp Stadium!
For now it is time to saviour this victory and continue with the season.

This.
It's something I'd like to achieve on FM15 during my long career but I did win it on last years game iirc when at Rangers.

Cheers fella, by far the best victory in the Champions League to date.
I am sure you will when you settle down and find that right club!
It is a great feat to go and win the Champions League, felt this one was the best yet.

So the Club World Cup came around, fixtures were cramped as it was and to compete in this was possibly going to affect our regular domestic season form. However you never turn the opportunity down to feature against some of the best clubs around. Having never progressed better than third place I wasn't expecting much. The sides in Asia are not as strong as that in Europe and you will need a real back against the door job to get past them. Barcelona put us to the sword, but we did have our chances. We should have taken our opportunities but we didn't. Neymar and co took their opportunities. We dispatched Alger of Algeria and ended third. A brilliant feat.
We thrilled the crowd too.
Cymro
My third year and my last year of the plan. After defying all the odds in the second season this season was going to be hard to top. We were going to have to dig deeper and deeper than the season before to achieve a similar result. I had decided that I was going to stick with the same squad that did everything the season before, but this time give the youngsters a bigger run. The academy is churning out kids, so best use them. Target this season? Win the league and progress deep into the Champions League.
Unlike last year we didn't require penalties. We just ensured we got the job done and do the job properly. Bossed Wellington off the park in the semi finals. Then took apart a strong and fierce rivals Central Coast Mariners. It was extraordinary. Duffy slotted two penalties and pulled off a string of saves. Easily one of my best victories here.
A vast improvement on the previous season. We won by a real considerable margin which allowed me in the last few games to really blood the youngsters to get them even more experience. A fantastic goal difference was also crucial to helping us win the league as sides knew they would have to go out and out score us and defend better than us. In reality few in the league could do this.
Defended the Cup with relative ease. In the final we took Wellington for granted and they gave us a game. In reality we should have been out of sight but failing to defend correctly meant we had to go into extra time to see them off. A great feeling to defend any sort of trophy back to back.
I will chuck this in here. Disappointing is the word. You can see the highs and low in one image. Victors one second and losers the next. Crashed out of the Champions League to a strong Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia. Never got out of the blocks after bossing the group stages. Likely my fault. Complacency 101. Disappointing this is the way it ended. But you can't have them all.
Lots and lots of outstanding performances. A squad that had no real new incomers. Only youth. I was pleased to see the Australian boys stand out and the fact that many of them have gone onto represent Australia at youth level show that there is a very bright future with this squad. I feel this is by far the best young squad I have ever had the pleasure of working / assembling in FM and I am sure after I leave the vast majority of them will be sold off.
Nothing in and the only outs were roster submissions. Lots of players getting loan experience at feeder clubs. A fantastic opportunity for some of our youngsters.
Finances improved dramatically thanks to our Champions League victory and our little run in the Club World Cup. However money was still out pouring during the season but with the talent now meeting a good value and things looking better on the field. The finances are / should be looking to get better. But only time will tell.
Key Player Profiles:
The concern for this young man is his injury record. For such a young chap he has quite a few training injuries. He shares that in common with Kewell I think. Yet bids did come in during the season, I was offered £2 million. Yet wasn't my valuation. He is easily worth £5 million. When he was fit he bossed the league and also the continent. I am really looking forward to seeing this guy's career develop. Hopefully not against whatever clubs I managed in the future.
Another young gun from the academy and another who has strong pedigree for us. This guy is something else. Not sure if he is in the same class as Keen but my gosh he is not far off. He was a revelation this season, took his chances well and is going to be the heart and soul of this club for the future. If not, a club elsewhere.
The man from Indonesia struggled for fitness but when fit. Well as you can see ... he knew the drill.

Next Season
Next season I am off to pasture new. Where that will be you ask? I know. Well, sort of a lie that. I had a deal to go to one country, with a club who required a similar job to that in Brisbane. But they had better resources to a certain extent. However the right job turned up. I think it might come as a surprise where I am off to. Some will say a step down, some will say an easy step down. All I can say, this won't be a long term job.
Cymro
I never knew that we had gone through the season undefeated, until this messaged popped up. Went back and checked, and of course we did. A real fantastic achievement. Pity I couldn't secure the Champions League at the same time. Would have been amazing to do all that.
Of course got recognised for going undefeated with my third consecutive manage of the year award.
Cymro
After Melbourne sacked their boss, I didn't think anything of the news until I saw that I was mentioned in the odds. I dunno if this was some kind of sick joke but I went to investigate it a little further.
Says I am very secure, so I couldn't understand why I was mentioned for the chop. But for not much longer it was not going to bother me. I was set to move on with my Asian adventure.
