I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

There's already an FK Jedinstvo (P) in the database, which is why FK Jedinstvo Pirot will remain as FK Jedinstvo (Pi).

Changes in how some competition names are displayed when playing the game in the Turkish language. Unless you're Turkish, there's no real need to re-download.

However I've come across an issue - the Japanese clubs have reverted to their "fake" names i.e. Urawa Reds are Saitama UTD, Antlers are Okayama FC etc.
Is there a save game compatible fix for this?
mons
Check the 3 lnc folders and delete any all and greek folders in there.
Fix is save-game compatible
mattjsmith11
Tried that but none of those folders were in either. Only Awards.lnc, Club City and Stadium Names.lnc and Competitions and Other Fixes.lnc in each.
Any other ideas?

Delete the fake.edt file from the edt folders. If that still doesn't work, could you please upload screenshots of the contents of the 3 edt and the 3 lnc folders respectively?
The fixes for Germany is save-game compatible. I'm not aware there's an issue with Dutch player names. Feel free to follow the installation instructions to solve the problem

I already installed the realname fix but i think everything was fine before, when i was playing this save yesterday (i played a few months since the update and WC 2022 had real names in the Germany squad)
Is it possible that the only thing that changed in my running save , was a new name for Blind ?
mons
The part in bold leads me to think that the file isn't installed correctly.
Could you please upload screenshots of the contents of the 3 edt and the 3 lnc folders respectively?

Can I also see the same for the 1600 and 1601 folders?
mattjsmith11
No fake files.
Sure. Here are the screenshots: http://imgur.com/a/UuUsk

Maybe i posted too quick and everything was fine(i changed jan janssen his name with option 'nickname' ? . Do u have any idea if it is possible that nothing changed in my running game (premier league was always named premier league , even before i downloaded the fix today) . or i'm getting crazy ? Thanks for the support.

I'm at work and can't see imgur images - will have to get back to you later tonight on this.
The 1601 edt and lnc folders are not correct. Delete them and install the edt and lnc folders from this download instead - and let me know how it goes
I made no player changes through the editor with this file. Either you have installed the files incorrectly, or you are running other editor data files which make the changes which you are mentioning.
mattjsmith11
I've reuploaded if you get a spare minute
mons
I see none of these either. Most image-hosting sites are blocked at work unfortunately
Try attaching them to a post - I think I should be able to see them that way...
mattjsmith11
There hope this works
mons
It all looks fine. The files which change the Japanese club names are no longer there, and lnc files are save-game compatible It's not clear from the screenshots, but I assume that the fake.edt file in each of the edt/permanent folders is no longer there, right?
Do you have any other editor data files downloaded from elsewhere perhaps?
mattjsmith11
That's correct yeah.
That crossed my mind as I had downloaded another one previously but I'm fairly certain I corrected the folders before downloading this file.
Would deleting the fake or nleague files from the all folders possibly solve this?
mons
Whereabouts are they?
mattjsmith11
In each of the three all folders.
Should I delete both fake and nleague? And I presume this won't be a save game compatible fix?
mons
Yes, you should. To be honest, I don't think it will, but I'm not 100%.
That's why I specify that the original edt and lnc folders are to be deleted outright and replaced by the folders in the download...

I suspect it's the fake.edt file which you did not delete which is causing this. Not much you can do about it in the middle of a save-game
What needs fixing? If it's the lack of players, then there's nothing much which can be done other than downloading a Japanese editor data file which populates Japanese teams. As it stands, Japanese players are not in the database due to licensing issues; I can't just create them out of thin air
