I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

Thanks for this, I'll take it on board for the next version of this file
Competition names are in the language of origin wherever possible, as are club names.

Whenever is there not?
I'm constantly updating the files and will release a new version once the patch is released...

Thanks!

It should be coming out before the end of Feb right?

Both proposed changes noted
Didn't have any idea about this, so thanks
I reckon SI will release the patch either next week or the week after, but that's just an educated guess going by their past releases. I will follow soon after, hopefully

Looks fine to me on my files But please keep posting any mistakes that you spot so that I can fix them.
Partially. The editor data files don't (i.e. the media files, 3 letter competition name changes and most importantly the club name changes). There is a workaround to get the club name changes here, even in the middle of a save-game.
The files are ready at my end and should be able to be rolled out quite soon after the patch is released (I suspect at some point this week going by past experience).

Hum, okay. Thanks very much.

Taken from the file in the download link on this very page:
Looks to me like you're either using another version of this file from elsewhere or you've downloaded another editor data file which amends the name of the Swedish top division for some reason.
No Totti No Party
The problem exists for NASL & Campionato Sammarinese though yes?

Hehe no worries, I did think it strange that a mistake like that went unnoticed for so long.
The other changes are in place

I finally picked up FM16. Just got everything installed, including this file and noticed Chinese clubs don't have their correct names. I started a new game and have the correct competition names, etc., so it's definitely installed correctly.
Did something change from previous years? I know FM14 had a "Chinese club name fix" file or something of the sort.
Thanks, great work as always. Couldn't play without you!
edit - this is what I'm seeing. https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6yjqmzD4BKutdpwVOHyahVM9OTdt9sHM4quplgnd.png

Maybe you're avoiding using the corporate names? These clubs change so much it's hard to keep track.
Let me know.

I've added the name changes for Chinese clubs in the forthcoming version to be released with the official patch. Just be patient and it should be at your end quite soon

FAO everybody else, I'm aware the 16.3 patch is now available. However, I will not be home before 2130 CET (2030GMT) at the very earliest, and therefore I won't be able to upload the files before then, so please be patient till that time. The files are ready (apart from the above possible changes) and shouldn't take me too long to upload.

I know I'm late to the party on this, but I've just tried downloading and all I get is a VLC player file. Is there anyone who can help me with this or might know a reason why? I'm using a Mac with OS X El Capitan if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Liam
