I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

I'm afraid that the fix for the Flamengo club name is not save-game compatible due to the nature of the file used (by SI) to change the name...
JC3
I've just installed the new file, started new save, and Flamengo's name is correct.
Thanks for your excellent work mons

Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from BOTH folders above
Is it just me or do Step 1 and Step 2 contradict themselves??? Step 1 says go to the 1630 folder but Step 2 says delete dbc, edt and lnc from BOTH folders above. What does it mean by BOTH folders?

That was a leftover from the instructions for the previous version of the file for 16.2.1. It should read from the folder above. Thanks for the spot, OP amended accordingly.

It should be UEFA Avrupa Futbol Şampiyonası 2016.
How can I fix this?
brodieb
If the answer is yes, can I have both v2.1 and v3.0 installed at the same time, with their respective dbc, edt, and lnc folders installed in the proper db folders? Or is it an either/or situation?
thanks!
mons
Delete the licensing.dbc file from the dbc folder, the fake.edt and SI_team_Holland.edt from the edt folder and copy the three lnc files from this download in whichever folder you want.

Thanks mons, I couldn't get Winrar to work but looking for it sent me in the direction of The Unarchiver, which is available in the mac app store and worked a treat.

Use this version of this download.

Thank you for your effort but you said you will fix the Turkish Cup name's error. But you did not fix it.. Problem still exists.
mons
Download the file attached to this post to replace the existing lnc file. Should do the trick and is save-game compatible. I'll re-upload the files accordingly later.
What's wrong with the Turkish Cup name?
Solid Snake
It is the same problem as @anilk said. Thank you I will try this fix.

That's got nothing to do with this file. I guess it wasn't included in the patch because it was officially announced by Liverpool after the data submissions from researchers were received.
