You should also not listen to Ninja either, who clearly has no clue about the player.
Not saying I do either, but I'll at least wait until I see him properly before I do.

Cheeky fucking cunt if this is true..

Now we've embarrassed ourselves with a terrible bid for Everton's two best players for nearly £15M less than we were prepared to spend on Cesc.
Our transfer window continues to be farcical.

Still no idea where Woodward went after our tour in Australia.

On the broader point, if Everton's value of Fellaini is so high that a £16m is considered derisory then this pursuit has a logical conclusion, sack any interest in signing Fellaini off. We should not even entertain any thought of exceding his £23.5m release clause of two weeks ago and, honestly, I'd be dissapointed if we paid much more than £20m for him, a mere £4m more than this offer.
Finally, Moyes has nothing to do with this. So any comparison to City's pursuit of Lescott is pointless, he simply would say to Woodward that he wanted Fellaini and then it is up to him.
Oh and Baines is a waste of money, the improvement to the team he'd make is miniscule.

Fellaini had a £24m release clause for most of the summer, and no one paid it. That should tell you how highly everyone values him, not just us.
Everton are complately within their right to demand whatever they want, but that doesn't mean we should pay it nor that he's worth it.
Honestly, I think Everton want between £20 and £25m so that they can replace him with McCarthy for a small profit. Baines I really don't care whether we sign or not, the biggest improvement he'd make to the team is freeing up RVP from taking freekicks so he can get on the end of them.
We'll deal around £35m I would imagine, anything more and there's better options there.

Whoever at Man U was handling the negotiations is a bit dim - there's no way the expiration of Fellaini's £23.5M would mean Everton would suddenly lower his valuation, while the rejected £12M bid for Baines also means Everton would want a wee bit more cash for their troubles.

What's wrong with that? Everton are well within their rights to reject everything below £40m

I think it's pretty obvious Everton would be within their rights, but that doesn't mean Fellaini and Baines should cost more than £40m nor that we should pay it.
The suggestion that a player who didn't interest clubs at £24m is now suddenly worth more than that is the most odd.

It'd be annoying if we sold him but frankly, until its said bid accepted, I'd be surprised. Besides, he's the wrong midfielder for Arsenal - they need a defensive midfielder rather than a playmaker. They can have Tiote.

That's Utd's problem then, not Everton's.

It's hardly a problem for either party, there's other players than Fellaini in the world. If Everton want to sell and value him in line with what we do then we'll do a deal, if we don't then we won't but the accusations of incompetence would be true if we paid a penny over his old release clause, which is why I'm sure we won't.

We aren't exactly well stocked in central midfield, quality-wise.
Anyway I hope that this is the start of something more.

Given the bid has already been rejected as "derisory" by the Toon - apparently you bid £10-12, which is about half what we value him at - its probably not.
Ninja
Yes, but that's more a dearth of players in the defensive mould than a Cabaye player.
Sky sports are saying that you've enquired about Kongonbiaiibiiai now, though, which seems more sensible.

Regarding Gourcuff, I saw a Ligue 1 journalist talking about the Gourcuff/Gervinho swap saying that both sides would view it as a good deal. As both had good reputations but had been poor for ages. Although Gourcuff has apparently had a good start to the season.

You could say that:

With regards to Arsenal's bid for Cabaye, he's a player I really admire and would love to see us get even if he's not the answer to our problems. Cabaye + Kondogbia/ Bender would be brilliant, along with a striker, centre-half, a winger and a goalkeeper. We need at least five players, really, if we're going to compete this season.
Shola
I've heard Grenier turned down Arsenal, and Kondogbia is third party owned, so there might not be enough time for that deal. Romain Amilifitano may be available though.
Although Arda Turan's agent has just said he expects an English club will meet his release clause.
