@Combinho, that's very decent for a first cut. I know it was pre-cut, but you did a very good job of removing the snow

Ideally, you keep a little less space between the bottom of the chin and the bottom of the cut so that the focus is on the face. I've given it a quick go myself so you can see what I mean

Cheers for the feedback. Tried a couple of others without uploading, but struggling to get smooth edges in GIMP (especially because they've been low resolution) and that tutorial's link is dead, but happy with how the snow came out there. On one of the others I've requested, there's a lot of green reflection/ tint from the grass further in than just the snow, not sure if there's a good way to get rid of that and didn't see anything in the tutorials.

GIMP isn't anywhere near as versatile or efficient at cutting anything but the most basic of sources as Photoshop is. I would certainly recommend giving it a go; there's a link in the guide to cutting thread where you can download an older version completely and legally free
