Is there an easy way to change the English Under-21s league to Under-23s (as in real life)? I cannot find the league in the Editor database, so am unsure where to start

I saw this thread earlier today, and then this happened. I linked FM16 to my youtube account, and created a youtube channel, just so I upload this cracking goal to this thread.

Getting towards the end of the 2023/24 season. Norwich, having just equalised, obviously have money on Anthony Martial winning the Golden Boot this season, as they gift him this goal, that he didn't even know he was scoring...

Just about to sort my squad numbers out, when I notice at the bottom of the screen

Is there anywhere these sorts of squad-number specific notes can be added, edited, etc? I've checked in the editor, and looked through the inc and xml files, but can't find anything. Anyone any ideas?

I've had this problem too. Start dates are all 2015. I made sure to only select English PL, as I saw it isn't compatible with Championship, but still not working

I'm quite the opposite with tactics. I set a formation (almost always 442), making sure all areas of the pitch are suitably covered - 1 cm slightly advanced, 1 slightly deeper; 1 cf slightly advance, 1 slightly deeper. I then set my main team instructions, but always listen to my assistant manager regarding minor tweaks to team instructions before each game. This is the first version of FM where I've found, unless you have superstars in every position, you cannot have 1 fixed tactic and win every game. Look at teams IRL - they mix up their game slightly depending on the opposition strengths (maybe Real, Barca, PSG and Bayern are exceptions, but look at the quality of their teams compared to the rest of the league).

Inspired by the start of Euro 2016, I have decided to embark on my first proper National Team save of FM16, playing as France. I have added a lot of younger players to my national pool, with the view that I will call up 1 or 2 youngsters on good form to the national team for friendlies. The first friendly has come round, and I'm trying to pick my squad. What I would like to do is view all the players from my national pool, aged over 21, and sort them by position and form, to select the bulk of my squad. You can filter players eligible for u19's and u21's, but not filter by age. I've tried on the scouting page, but I cannot find an option for players IN the national pool, only out of it, and I cannot seem to filter out under 21 players from the national pool. So, any ideas if it's possible to do what I want to do?

I couldn't send him back to the feeder club, they were relegated and unable to sign foreigners. It then took a while to get my board to agree to a new feeder club, is why he played u21's. And I have 2 new feeder clubs I could've sent him to, if they'd allowed me to renew the contract.

I couldn't renew. Tried for 18 months to renew, kept being denied wp. Kept playing him on rotation, but he didn't get any more international call-ups, even though he had a good run in the side when Depay was out injured just before the African Nations Cup. Just bugs me, why couldn't I sign him to a contract extension without a work permit? If you can sign players without to loan them out, why not extend contract to loan out?

I signed Traore, a Newgen from Ivory Coast, no work permit. Loaned him out to Bulgaria, got work permit after first year with them (7 int caps). Then played u21 games for a season, then up to first team as back-up, available for u21s. Depay playing well, 2nd choice doing ok, not many oppurtunities for Traore. Sell 2nd choice, Traore gets a few more games, cup games, etc. He's doing well, but not getting int call-up. Now his contract has expired, and I can't get a new work permit for him, but I also can't sign him without a work permit to loan out. He's only a year away from British citizenship, which makes it all the more frustrating.

For anyone saying I should've kept him in Bulgaria to gain citizenship there, I couldn't, as my feeder club got relegated, and were not allowed to loan any foreigners.

But I haven't changed tactics. And it's the same players getting more bookings than before.

Paul Pogba, for example, has gone from P 42(5), 14 Y, 0 R, to P 22, 15 Y, 0 R. The same amount of bookings in half the matches.
Pierrick Vaillant (Newgen) P 31, 1 Y, 0 R last season. P26, 10 Y, 0 R so far this season.

The only difference is Brian McClair left as Ass Man, I promoted Nicky Butt, and one coach retired, another 2 brought in. Training is the same (albeit coaches swapped around a bit), tactics the same, but the same players as before getting more bookings.

Maybe as the season plays out it'll start to even out a bit. Or as these players are getting older they are getting more clumsy

So I'm in my 7th season as Man Utd manager. Much the same squad as last few seasons, nothing much has changed, except Assistant Manager and a new coach or 2. All of a sudden, I'm getting fines for too many bookings, more players sent off, overall discipline got worse. Around the same time as I started this season, the latest update (16.3.0 776772 (m.e v1632)) from SI came out. Has anyone else had problems with too many bookings since the latest update? Or is it just my game, and a change of staff and possibly their training methods has had an impact?

Do you use an in-game editor? It can really screw up save files. If you use a 3 file rolling save, maybe try the previous save file?

The positions are always filled in the order the positions were set in. The best way to do it is look at the positions during a friendly, to get the default position numbers (1-11), and make sure that the second tactic has the right number in the right place. Example, if tactic 1 is a 442, and MR is number 7, and tactic 2 is 4-2-3-1, make sure AMR is also number 7, and the player will automatically be in the right place.

I use a 442 and a 4231. I started with the 442, pulled the MR and ML up to AMR and AML, then pulled the striker who could also be AMC down to AMC, and made the other SC central, and then saved. I don't think the default tactics are done this way, so if you change, it totally messes the players up.

Maybe, before cup games, change match preparation to attacking set pieces? I've not tried it, and I agree that penalty shoot outs are nigh-on impossible to win, but it's got to be worth a go

In my FM15 Real Madrid save, I found a gem of a newgen. Pau, Spanish GK. Played for Barcelona, so needed to pay £27m to get him, aged 18. I found him using FMRTE, which I use for scouting, CA was low (95-ish), but PA of 195. What I failed to check was his controversy stat (20) and professionalism stat (1). He never progressed, failed to show for training at least once a month, always on the poor performance in training list. Every time, I would fine him for unprofessional behaviour, spoke to him about his poor training, and each time he kicked off. After 18 months I got fed up and released him on a free, but kept him on my shortlist to track him. Signed for Marseille, played a handful of games, always missing training, they ran down his contract then let him go. Think he spent 2 years floating around on a free. Checked his stats again, CA had dropped into the 80's. Never seen a bigger waste of talent in the game. Like you say, keeps it interesting.

I've had struggles, and found the best thing to do is really really use your Assistant Manager. On the team selection page, click the shiny new match tactics advice button (near top right on the standard skin), and, assuming your AM has a decent tactics rating, do everything he says. I usually use control at home, counter away, but always what the AM suggests. Then, during the match, always follow AM advice during the game, regarding closing down, changing passing style, tempo. etc. The only time I ignore is when it says "We are being seriously overrun in midfield" because it ALWAYS says that if the opposition has more midfielders than you.

If you're playing as Man Utd, ditch Giggs, he is terrible as 1st team AM. Promote Butt to 1st team AM, and utilise his tactics at all times.

We've all been there. Player is unhappy, and wants to leave. Offer him for transfer for silly money, and no offers.

Then you see the box - Ask <player> to speak to clubs.

Click it, and have a player interaction telling the player to look for a new club.

has it ever actually worked? I've never said that to a player, and they've come back and said they've found a new club, or a club has made an offer based on the player or agent contacting them.

So why is it in the game? What's the point?
