I have had a go at creating a team pack for Mansfield Town season 2020-2021 for the first and youth team.

I am not the best at it but here is my attempt. Unfortunately some images have a bit of the snow affect which is above my ability to fix. Can anyone please offer help smarten this up ready for FM21 please?

The file has 43 players in total of which you will notice 10 youth players that are not in the FM20 database. These are the new first year scholars in the U18s team which are expected to be in the FM21 database and I will update their ID's once FM21 is released. I doubt their images will be in the new game by default as the club only updated the profile page and images for the youth team over the last couple of days so I thought I would get a head and create their cut outs in advance.

Thanks Sortitoutsi Community!

Not a bad start, but I'm afraid hardly any of these will be improvements. Apart from the snow which you mention, most of them have an overly large gap between the bottom of the chin/facial hair and the bottom of the canvas. We aim for 2-3 pixels and no more in order to ensure that the focus of the cut is the face as much as possible.

In terms of the snow, if you use remove.bg then you should get the absolute bulk of it removed in the first instance

In the case of practically all the images from 29233241 onwards, it looks to me like the sources weren't really large enough for providing 250x250 cuts due to the cuts' blurriness/lack of sharpness.

Finally, having the no-ID players with the UID given in a custom editor data file is next to useless in terms of the megapack, I'm afraid. I have no way of knowing who they are It's better to have their filename as their name so that I can add them to my no-ID folder to be checked once FM21 came out.

If you've still got the original sources, I'd suggest either having another go at it keeping in mind all the above, or submit them as a teampack request

To ensure cut quality, if you go for the former option, I would recommend submitting a couple of the sources as requests on the forum, and then uploading your cut in the comments instead of a completed cut. This gives the community an opportunity to provide feedback for your work so that subsequent cuts are all of a better quality. I know you're predominantly (probably exclusively ) interested in Mansfield cuts as you have been every year, but perfecting your cutting technique will allow you to provide good-quality cuts even in the future as and when new Mansfield sources and new players become available

Hi Mons, Thanks for the assistance! remove.bg was exactly what I needed so thank you!
I took all the original files directly from the below links opening each player image up using the "?anchorpoint=top&preset=player&greyscale=false" trick following on from advice given by HRiddick & weeniehutjr on how to extract the original upload from EFL sites due to the low res downgrade after upload.
https://www.mansfieldtown.net/teams/first-team/
https://www.mansfieldtown.net/teams/youth-team/

When FM21 comes out I will revisit any missing image requests and share appropriate links based on your feedback for the more expect cutters to complete. What I have done will do for me and my game on FM20 for now so thank you for the help

Ok guys, over the years there were cuts not properly sized, few pixels off...249x250,250x251 etc.
This is the easiest way to have all of your cuts exactly 250x250 or 180x180 ,no need to hunt pixels.
https://hostr.co/file/970/3fstUGUFHAce/croppreset.png

1. Select the Crop tool,set it to W x H Resolution
2. Enter 250 in both fields like shown in the picture.
3. Click on New Crop Preset, then name it like you want or leave it as it is.

That's it.You can repeat the same for 180x180.Photoshop will remember the last used preset after reopening.
When you need to change the mode, just select it from the same drop down menu.

Also make sure you have other settings like this:
https://hostr.co/file/970/rtxenF0WcLsC/cropgrid.png

https://hostr.co/file/970/uO0x7Ls5PUW6/cropsettings.png

One more thing....
When you need to center the face, use left and right arrow keys on keyboard to fine tune it.

Aaand one more thing...
When you tweak the crop vertically, the crop square edge can "jump" or snap to some line.To stop this happening press and hold CTRL before you click on the edge you want to move with your mouse.
Movement will be smooth

No idea, but I would imagine it's much, much harder to make good cut-outs on a phone due to the lack of precision possible when compared to using a mouse.

How to rotate a image

When you have a source image which needs rotating, like this:
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/media/0H0nWwEuhIEA6Kz6Isz1vzVBctV8on6tFHv6gQrl.jpeg

Use the rotate canvas tool to rotate the image BEFORE you begin the cutting process.
https://i.postimg.cc/R9G094Wb/Skjermbilde4.png

Input how many degrees you'd like to rotate the image, then select counter-clockwise or clockwise:
https://i.postimg.cc/HHTLfVky/Skjermbilde3.png

When you feel like you rotated the image enough, double-check by using ctrl+'.

Great tutorial :clapping_hands:

For users who do not have Photoshop and who cut using photopea, the rotation part in the above process can be replicated online using the advanced tab of this page. I urge cutters old and new to make sure that their cuts are as much as possible in an upright position by using the above tutorial to ensure an optimal look in-game πŸ‘

I've created a video tutorial for remove.bg - anything I should add/improve?

https://streamable.com/2cxnh

I'm interested in hearing if non-cutters think it demonstrates the steps in an easy manner :ok_hand:

I never added this to the opening post

Alternative, faster and less destructive way to remove snow using Brush instead of Clone Stamp tool:

Make sure to lock transparent pixels, you can click on the icon or press / on keyboard
https://hostr.co/file/970/MalieeXc9ohq/lock.png

- Select Brush tool,choose Soft Round brush,Darken mode,opacity around 70%
- ALT+left click on hair color you want to use to cover problematic parts
- Paint with it

This can also be used to fix green reflections on the neck and jaw (choose Hue mode for brush,ALT+left click on proper skin color)
You can work in Darken mode to remove shine from face, too.Experiment with it,result could be very accurate and believable.

Sorry to be a pain in the backside. I have created a few players faces for youth players in German teams but the issue I have is with the background. I was wondering how I can change it so it matches the 13.00 and 01 packs.

See the attached images and you'll see what I mean. I had to go onto the club's website to get this pics

I've moved your post to this thread, where you can find some guidelines and tutorials in the main post. It's better if you saved the sourced images directly from the site rather than take screenshots thereof as you seem to have done, for a start.

Hi

I was wondering if there's an alternative to Photoshop when it comes to removing the white backgrounds in the pictures.

The attachment shows in my saved game. Any advice on removing the white background would be appreciated

remove.bg is a great free tool to automatically remove backgrounds, and photopea.com is a free web-based alternative to Photoshop. There's a tutorial here for how best to use remove.bg: https://sortitoutsi.net/comments/get/489897

Thanks for that, in the tutorial when he starts to click around the players face near the end of the video, what button has he selected?

Remove.bg is indeed great - please remember to crop sources before using it though, because the free preview option is limited to 500x500 (or equivalent).

Have you noticed that the key presses are shown on the right, albeit with a reduced opacity?

What is the time in the video? If it's from the 1.00 mark onwards, it's alt+left click to select the area to clone stamp from and plain left click to clone stamp to πŸ‘

The steps being done at that stage are the ones used in this video, which has a voice-over in it to better explain πŸ™‚

That part is using the clone stamp tool to remove "snow" from the edges of the cutout - fixing discolorations, darkening edges that are too bright which would show up on a dark background etc. Maybe you could just skip that step for now until you have gotten the hang of the basics πŸ˜‰

Welcome. As you can see, it's really not as hard as it might look, especially with large and high-quality sources πŸ‘

Feel free to post the final cut-outs here for further feedback πŸ™‚

Not much wrong with it, but like I explained yesterday, the source isn't that good because it's small and it's been pre-cut already so it's probable it won't be an improvement. That said, in terms of cutting technique, it's perfectly fine πŸ™‚

I need some feedback on this one, guys. I think he looks good with the neck but let me know if some adjustment needs to be made in that part.
This is Hernán Buján, River Plate's coach. His cut out has been the same since 2015 so I thought it would be good to improve that one.

This is Hernán Buján, River Plate's coach. His cut out has been the same since 2015 so I thought it would be good to improve that one.

As outlined earlier, there should only be 2-3 pixels beneath the chin. The focus of the cut should be the face; we don't care about anything below the neck.

I appreciate that the current cut is a bit old, and it could do with being updated, but a cut with this much below the neck won't be considered an improvement. I've made a cut for him here correcting this shortcomings.

For future cuts, please remember to leave only 2-3 pixels beneath the chin and to always include a small bit of collar. If the collar is much lower down the neck, then use the techniques outlined in the first post to nudge the collar upwards and fulfill both requirements. This is not optional or depending on personal preferences, but is to be done for all cuts in order to have a standard megapack look wherever possible.

I've moved this to here.

Firstly, read the guidelines in the first post on what we want in our cut-outs. Secondly, it depends entirely on the source image it's been cut from. The bigger and better it is, the better the final cut-out will be.

I made these videos to show how easy it is to make cuts, one using Photoshop to do so and one using photopea.com

https://streamable.com/rt6u8e

https://streamable.com/tgfkx1

I think using this technique will improve your output greatly πŸ™‚

I've moved your post to this thread containing tutorials and guidelines for cutters. I'm in the process of adding a number of tutorial videos in the respective spoiler to further assist prospective cutters such as yourself.

I would recommend reading the first post of this thread, and watching the respective tutorial videos, then try cutting one of the pending sources in our request forum. As you're still starting out, I would suggest posting your first attempts in this thread rather than uploading them on the forum. This way, we can give you feedback in here without a lot of comments for suggestions cluttering up the person's timeline πŸ˜‰
