1. How do I install the cut-out megapack if I’m using Steam on Windows?
Watch this YouTube tutorial video, which should you guide you on the steps you need to follow to install it. Although it is for an older version of FM, the steps are still the same. You need to use Winrar (or a similar program) to extract the downloaded file.
This is what the MP folder should look like for the respective version of FM you're using:
Anything beyond the blue line is up to you and how you want to structure your folders.
The preferences should look like in the below screenshot:
To get them to look like this, navigate to your preferences on the welcome screen or by using the drop-down menu near the top right of the menu within your save game.
Choose the advanced tab (the blue square within the screenshot above) and select all from the drop-down menu on the right (the red square within the screenshot above).
Scroll down to the interface section near the middle of the list, where you are to make sure that:
• the “Use caching to decrease page loading times” box is unticked
• the “Reload skin when confirming changes in Preferences” box is ticked
After clicking confirm, it may take a few seconds or minutes for all the graphics to be loaded and you should now see all the graphics you have downloaded appear in your save game.
Once your skin is reloaded, you can re-tick the "Use Caching to Decrease Page Loading Time" button so that the splash screen at the start takes a lot less longer to load. However, the above process needs to be undertaken every time you add graphics to your game to ensure that the game "reads" them.
2. How do I install the cut-out megapack if I’m using a Mac OS?
From FM20 onwards, there's been a substantial change to how Mac FM documents are stored. Previously the files would automatically go in the Documents folder here:
Users/YOUR Mac USERNAME/Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 202x
Now the files will instead appear in the following location:
Users/YOUR Mac USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 202x
By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:
Open Finder
Click ‘Go’ from the menubar
Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key
This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> ‘Football Manager 202x -> graphics’ (create the last folder if necessary
Anything beyond this path line is up to you and how you want to structure your folders.

3. I don’t want to have the megapack in the default user data folder – can I place it elsewhere and how would I do so?
You need to change your user data location. Simple steps on how to do so can be found here.
The above step does not apply if you’re playing on Gamepass, in which case the user data location has to be the default one (i.e. Documents / Sports Interactive / Football Manager 202x)
It is recommended that the user data location is not placed within the Steam installation folder as this may cause issues.
4. How do I install the cut-out megapack if I’m using Gamepass?
If you're using Gamepass, then you have to use the default user data folder - point 4 above does not and can not apply to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you're not a premium member, it is recommended that you download the base megapack via torrent by going to our cut-out megapack download page. After which, you should then download all the update packs released to date and apply them chronologically.
If you're a premium member, just download the most recent complete pack.
If you already have a version of our Cut-Out Faces Megapack installed, then click "Download Latest Changes" and you'll be presented with a list of all the updates we've released since you've last downloaded a file. Simply download any you might have missed, starting with the oldest.

Torrent files need a torrent client to be downloaded. I personally use µTorrent but other common clients are BitTorrent, Vuze and Deluge. For those using torrents for the first time, here is a general walk-through on how to download torrents and a specific guide for µTorrent.
Be aware that it will take a substantial amount of time to download the file due to its sheer size and that other people depend on you hosting the file to get it so please leave your torrent client on after you have fully downloaded it. The etiquette is generally accepted to be to upload as much as you download, although this might not always be possible. The older the torrent file, the less likely it is that there will still be users seeding it.
If done correctly, you should be asked if you want to overwrite files – accept. You should have one folder for faces and another folder for iconfaces, and no sub-folder whatsoever in them.
These steps are to be repeated for every update pack downloaded, and they are to be installed chronologically.
Secondly, for files as large as this, the calculation of the extraction time will be wildly incorrect at the start. After a while, it'll show a more realistic timeframe, which shouldn't be more than an hour or two if you have a good setup and few programs running at the same time.
Try using Google Chrome in incognito mode (or the equivalent mode for other browsers) and you should be able to resume the download from the point it was interrupted, if that happens.
The likelihood is that you've put the iconfaces in the faces folder, or used the wrong config file for each folder. As a result, the smaller images (in 25x18) are being upscaled to be displayed in the person's profile, hence the blurring. Re-install the update pack again, making sure you put the contents of each folder in the right place.
Alternatively, you can download fmXML and generate a config yourself. There's a video on YouTube on how to use it but it's really easy and the instructions are quite straight-forward.
To get them to show, you should individually download the cut-out faces that you want from here (or use the UID to find them in your existing facepack if you don't use the cut-out megapack), put them in a separate folder to your existing facepack and create a config file just for them using the method outlined in here (which works for all facepack styles, not just the cut-out megapack).

Seems like you didn't install it correctly. Read this and use the config files provided with the download.

I am a premium member and downloading is 20 kb speed for the 2022.01 face changes. That is even slower than the free one.

It's working fine at my end, and I have a terrible internet connection, so it seems the issue is at your end.
Some users have reported this issue is resolved if using a different internet browser or using Incognito/InPrivate mode, since the browser you use may have some extensions installed which are unknowingly throttling your download speeds from our servers. It's been known to happen tbf.

There seems to be an issues on Macs recently. This may not be just related to the Cut-Out packs. There is a post here in SI Forums:
FM21, my facepack isnt working (macbook) - Skinning Hideout - Sports Interactive Community (sigames.com)
I recently upgraded to a new MacBook (M1 Pro). For some reason, some faces are loading and others are not. All the facepack files are in the correct location. For example, Mo Salah will have an image, while James Milner will not. However, the James Milner png file is in the folder and matches the unique id in game. On Milner's profile, there will just be an invisible or blank image. Not even a blacked out player face.
Are others encountering this issue? Thanks

If it is an issue with FM not displaying images correctly in some cases for technical reasons, then there's not much which we can do unfortunately. Personally, I'd be quite surprised if that's the case - in my experience, these kind of issues are almost always down to the files that the user has installed or in the way that they've installed them.
I don't play on a Mac, so my practical advice is somewhat limited, but a person having a blank space where their pic should be is usually a config issue. It means the game is finding a config with that UID but not the pic assigned to it. It could be there's a config file somewhere from a previous (or different) facepack installation which was only partly deleted.

This is a fresh install from Steam and vanilla megapack download from Sortioutsi so unfortunately that's not the case. It must be a MacOS issue. I have reviewed the config file again in Xcode and everything lines up. I did verify files through Steam and that did not solve the problem either. I will investigate further.

Hello everyone, thanks a lot for your commitment to make the FM even better, it's really appreciated!
I am playing on FM 2016. I have downloaded the up-to-date Cut-Out Megapack via Torrent and followed the instructions carefully step by step. When the skin is reloaded, some faces are there, some are missing, and clicking around on player/club profiles quickly leads to crashing (pictures attached). Removing the FacePack from the graphics folder seems to remove these issues.
I have tried a few things including a new download + unpacking (with WinRar - btw I also get the messages that some file names are double in the rar), deleting the Cache folder by hand, and creating a new config file. Nothing has helped so far. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance!
mons
How many images are there in the faces and iconfaces folder respectively?
TimTomTimTom
faces: 331.552 files
iconfaces: 331.544 files
mons
And how large is the faces folder in terms of size? It could be that the files weren't extracted properly.
Also, for players who you get those weird images of, like Hinterreger, if you search for the image by UID in the faces folder, does the preview image display?
TimTomTimTom
the faces folder has 14.9 GB (15.5 on disk). Haven't downloaded the editor yet so give me a few moments before I can check the UIDs.
It's also noteworthy that it seems like precisely the same players are problematic as in my previous attempt (with different torrent client & different unpacker).
TimTomTimTom
The relevant pictures are in good order in the faces folder. Can this somehow be related to the database chosen for the saved game?
mons
Can you give me the filesize of Hinterreger's cut-out in your folder? Can you then replace it with an image downloaded from this site?
You can find a player's UID using the database search tool on this site without downloading the editor 😉
I don't believe that should be the issue at all.
TimTomTimTom
Ah, thank you! I didn't know that.
The file was 55,8 kB. After replacing with the file on this website (~100 kB), Hinteregger's face does indeed show up in the game.
So, there seems to be an issue either with the torrent download or the extraction. Is there any way to avoid/fix this? Checking 330,000 picture files by hand doesn't seem all that attractive an option.
mons
That would certainly not be the recommended course of action 😀
However, I'm not exactly sure how to recommend you should proceed. How long does it take you to extract the download when using winrar?
TimTomTimTom
I'm glad to hear that. ;-)
I think it was roughly an hour, which seemed appropriate as measured by statements in this forum.
I really have a continuum of file sizes in the folder, and only 15,500 are bigger than 100kb.
/edit. It also seems peculiar to me that 7Zip seemed to get precisely the same files wrong in the previous attempt.
mons
That timeframe seems fine tbh.
I wouldn't think it's that peculiar tbh. If the file is generated ‘badly’, it'll be extracted ‘badly’ irrespective of the method or program used to extract it.
You wouldn't happen to have a more recent FM version to try using the same files with it? This hasn't been flagged as an issue with FM22 yet, so I'm wondering if the issue is related to FM16.
The most recent torrent file contain a different compression technique to reduce the file size. I'm wondering if this technique produces cut-out file which are displayed normally in FM22 but which FM16 doesn't support, somehow.
TimTomTimTom
I don't own a more recent FM, unfortunately. And I suppose there is no way to get a torrent for one of the previous megapacks? (Tbh I'd even be happy with the facepack of 2016).
mons
You'd have to rely on somebody in the community still having it…
TimTomTimTom
Yeah, I guess that's not to be expected. Maybe the best thing I can do is download the original pack plus all the updates up to 2016 by hand, although that's gonna take a long time.
Thank you for your help! I'm ofc happy if you can think of sth else. 🙂
lfc1892jh
I've tried downloading the pack and that worked fine but I tried to extract it using WinRar but it says it was going to take upwards of 10 hours. Is this normal?
mons
Extracting the filewill take a while, but it shouldn't take that long. To speed it up, it is recommended that you have as few programs running as possible so that the system can dedicate as many resources to the extraction as it possibly can.
Secondly, for files as large as this, the calculation of the extraction time will be wildly incorrect at the start. After a while, it'll show a more realistic timeframe, which shouldn't be more than an hour or two if you have a good setup and few programs running at the same time
lfc1892jh
I'll give that a go, ive got it extracting with no other programs open. I'll just have to let it run for a while and see what happens. Currently it is telling me I have 25 hours left and has just been going up for the past few minutes which isnt great. Thanks for the quick response
mons
Like I said, it'll settle down eventually and then extract everything quite quickly 👍

Hello,
Just downloaded the face pack and followed instructions to put into the Sports Interactive and Football Manager 2022 folder, but when I clicked on preferences to reload the skin, it didn't work! Mine is on a MacBook Pro 2016. Anyone else have this same problem?
mons
What is the folder you've placed it in, and how many images do you have in the faces folder?
Can we have screenshots of the path it's been placed in?

I installed FM 22 in D:\Steam Library\steamapps\common (an option provided by the Steam installer). I then downloaded the megapack and installed it in D:\Steam Library\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2022. I then opened FM22 game options and made the adjustments recommended on this site and restarted the game. Regrettably, the player photos did not appear in the game. Can anyone please tell me what I have done wrong?
mons
That is not the right place to install the megapack; read the installation instructions carefully for any file you download if you want it to work as intended. They should go in Documents \ Sports Interactive \ Football Manager 2022 \ graphics.
Chevalier
Many thanks for your preompt response. Since “Documents” exist in several places on the C drive and the D drive then exactly where should I place the graphics? I chose the D drive because that is where Steam has installed the game.
mons
Irrespective of the drive in which Steam is installed, the default location for all user data files (including graphics) is Documents / Sports Interactive / Football Manager 22.
The Documents folder is usually located in C. If that's the case, you should already have a folder titled Sports Interactive in there. You can have them elsewhere, but then you just need to tell FM where to look for them by changing the user data location from the in-game preferences.
I do not recommend having the graphics in the same place that the game itself is installed in, as you seem to have done. Have it in a separate folder outside the Steam path.
