Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Andros Townsend has praised manager Andre Villas-Boas after the 21 year old was handed a starting place against AZ Alkmaar last night in their Europa League Group H clash at White Hart Lane and the midfielder didn't disappoint as he scored during the 2-1 win.
With three goals in just six appearances in all competitions this season it's fair to say that 21 year old midfielder Andros Townsend is making the best of every opportunity he gets in the Spurs first team. The midfielder made his Premier League debut against Reading back in October at White Hart Lane and scored in the 3-0 win.
Townsend has also scored twice in the Europa League this season and was on the scoresheet last night at White Hart Lane as Spurs beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 despite manager Andre Villas-Boas making seven changes to his side from the one that had beaten Stoke City five days earlier at the Britannia Stadium.
The 21 year old praised his manager after scoring last night, Townsend keen to point out that he'll be forever grateful to Villas-Boas after the Portuguese manager trusted him by handing him his Premier League debut.
"It's been a fantastic season for me personally, I've played some games and scored some goals. I've always wanted to break into the Spurs first team and all those loans at other clubs seem worthwhile now that I'm finally getting a chance. I'm still learning, I'm only 21 and I know I've a lot to improve on but I don't think there is a better club for me to be at. Spurs has fantastic fans, fantastic facilities and world class players here, I can't fail to improve on a daily basis. I'm enjoying my football and loving every minute at Spurs," said Townsend.
"The new manager has been great, I owe him a lot and I'll never forget what he's done for me. He's put that trust in me, he's given me my Premier League debut and I'll always be grateful for that," added the midfielder.
Townsend signed a new deal last November that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2016.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale will be the subject of a £40 million bid from Spanish giants Real Madrid when the transfer window opens in January according to reports in various Spanish newspapers.
Some mouthwatering performances from Spurs winger Gareth Bale has caught the attention of La Liga champions Real Madrid and the 23 year old will be the subject of a £40 million bid when the transfer window reopens in January, although Spurs are expected to reject any offers unless they're closer to a whooping £60 million.
Bale has scored just twice in nine Premier League appearances this season although he has gone close to increasing that tally on many occasions, the 23 year old denied by the woodwork on many an occasion.
The Welsh international joined the North London club back in 2007 when Spurs paid Southampton £5 million.
Bale has gone on to make 121 Premier League appearances for Spurs scoring 22 times but if reports in Spain are true his time at White Hart Lane may be coming to an end in just over a months time when the transfer window reopens in January, although sources close to the player say Bale isn't thinking about a move overseas at this stage in his career, the winger preferring to focus on life with Spurs and Wales for now.
The 23 year old has been capped 39 times by Wales and has scored eight times for his country.
Bale is currently one of the highest earners at White Hart Lane after penning a new four year deal during the summer worth more than £4 million a year and it's believed that Spurs would be willing to double the 23 year olds wages in an attempt to keep him at the club for longer if Real Madrid do make enquires in January.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has rubbished claims made in the Spanish media that winger Gareth Bale will join La Liga champions Real Madrid when the transfer window reopens in January.
Gareth Bale may have been linked with a January move to La Liga champions Real Madrid but according to Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas the player is not for sale and that is the end of the matter.
"I've seen some reports linking Gareth with a move to Spain but that won't be happening. We are in a position that allows us to keep our best players and that's exactly what I'll be doing," said Villas-Boas.
"He won't be leaving in January or next summer, that's the end of it all," added the Spurs boss.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has promised manager Andre Villas-Boas that he'll be fit and ready when called upon despite being second choice behind French international Hugo Lloris.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has enjoyed the luxury so far this season of having two world class goalkeepers at his disposal in the form of Hugo Lloris and Brad Friedel. The latter may have celebrated turning 41 last May but the former American international is still as good as any other shot stopper in the Premier League.
Friedel, 41, has made just four appearances for Spurs this season, the veteran keeper featuring twice in the Capital One Cup and twice in the Europa League for the North London club.
After appearing in every Premier League game for his respective club for the last eight seasons the American admits it's taken some time to get use to warming the bench after the summer arrival of Hugo Lloris.
"Nobody wants to be on the bench and when you're a goalkeeper it's not like you can fill in somewhere else, we've only got the one keeper and somebody has to miss out. It's taken some time to adapt to because I've played a lot of games over the last few seasons, but I fully support whoever is in goal for the club, I'm a professional and I accept the managers choice, I'm fully behind the manager whatever his decision," said the 41 year old.
With his contract expiring next summer Friedel could leave White Hart Lane, although the veteran goalkeeper insists he's simply focussing on staying fit and preparing for every game as if he's going to be named in the starting lineup, the 41 year old promising Villas-Boas that he'll be fit and ready if called on.
"I'm not thinking about the summer right now, not at all, not in the slightest. All I'm doing is preparing for each game as if I'm playing and focusing on staying fit, that way if I'm needed I'll be ready," stated Friedel.

Tottenham Hotspurs attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson believes the month of December will be the most important in the North London clubs quest for a top three finish in the Premier League that would secure an automatic place in the lucrative Champions League for next season.
Christmas time is traditionally a busy period for Premier League clubs and this season is no exception.
Spurs will play a total of eight Premier League games during the month of December and will also travel to Germany to face Hannover 96 in their final Europa League Group H fixture, although the North London club have already secured top spot in Group H after winning all five of their fixtures in Group H to date.
Gylfi Sigurdsson, 23, has played a pivotal role for the North London club in Europe netting four times in five appearances and has been influential chipping in with seven assists, more than any other player in the competition, the Icelandic international already becoming a key player for Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Now with a busy December period on the horizon the Spurs midfielder called on his team-mates to take things game by game, the 23 year old certain that the month ahead could make or break their challenge for a top three finish, the North London club hoping to qualify automatically for the group stages of the Champions League through their league finish after Chelsea won the competition last season, the Blues triumph in Munich on penalties against Bayern Munich pushing Spurs out of the Champions League and into the Europa League.
"December is a big month for us and we know it's important we keep winning," said the midfielder.
"We've some very big games, notably against Arsenal and Chelsea away, those games are big for the players and the fans. Hopefully we'll be able to keep winning and continue challenging at the top end of the table. It won't be easy because we will play a lot of games but we know we must take it game by game," added Sigurdsson.
"The squad has a lot of quality in it and I think we belong in the Champions League. In the end though you must earn that honour, nobody will hand it to you and there are other clubs that really want to play in the Champions League also. It's up to us to make sure we're the team playing Champions League football instead of them, so we must keep winning and picking up points to finish high enough in the table," said the 23 year old.
The Icelandic international joined Spurs during the summer from Bundesliga side 1889 Hoffenheim in a deal worth £8 million and signed a four year contract that will keep him at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2016.
Sigurdsson has scored six times in 15 appearances in all competitions Spurs since his summer arrival.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has been handed a timely boost ahead of his sides Premier League clash against Everton on Monday night with the news that midfielder Scott Parker is fit again.
Spurs midfielder Scott Parker is fit and available again after completing his recovery from a groin strain suffered against Wigan Athletic last month. The injury kept the 32 year old sidelined for three weeks and forced the midfielder to miss the clubs Premier League clash with Stoke City and their Europa League tie against AZ Alkmaar.
The midfielder has struggled with injuries this season and has made just four appearances in all competitions.
Parker joined Spurs from relegated side West Ham United last summer in a deal worth £5 million and was a crucial part of Harry Redknapp's side that finished fourth in the Premier League last season.
He made 29 Premier League appearances for the North London club in his first season at White Hart Lane
The midfielder impressed for England at Euro 2012 as the Three Lions made it to the quarter finals, another heartbreaking penalty shootout loss, this time at the hands of Italy, ending England's tournament in Kiev.
The experienced midfielder has two years remaining on his current £65,000 a week contract at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker says he's wary of a wounded and out of form Everton side ahead of the pairs Premier League clash tomorrow night at White Hart Lane.
Everton have picked up just four points from their last five Premier League games and head into tomorrow nights clash with Spurs at White Hart Lane having failed to score in their last two Premier League outings.
Spurs on the other hand have picked up 10 points from an available 15 in their last five Premier League outings, a narrow defeat to Manchester United and an unlucky draw against Wigan Athletic the only blemishes for Spurs.
The North London club currently sit eight places above Everton and still have their eyes set on challenging the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
Spurs currently sit 17 points behind league leaders Manchester United but do have five games in hand.
Everton on the other hand are languishing in the wrong half of the Premier League table and will be desperate to start a busy December period with a positive result at White Hart Lane tomorrow night.
Spurs defender Kyle Walker says he's wary of the threat that a wounded Everton side will pose.
"Tomorrow night is going to be a tricky fixture for us because Everton are a good side, although they've been inconsistent this season you still have to respect them because on their day they can beat any team in the Premier League, it just depends what Everton side turns up tomorrow night," said Walker.
"We've been playing good football this season under the new manager and we've been quite consistent in picking up the points. Obviously the aim is to continue doing that and hopefully we can start December with a win. This month is going to be difficult because we've got so many games to play and within a short space of time, so it's important we all stay focussed and hopefully everyone stays injury free," added the 22 year old.
"This season we set our minimum aim as a top three finish and I think we're good enough to achieve that. It won't be easy to do that and we know that. The Premier League is a very difficult league to play in and that's why you hear a lot of players speak about taking it game by game, you can't get to ahead of yourself because you can win one week and the next week be brought back down to earth with a shattering loss, it's a fantastic league to play and I'm very grateful I'm at a top club like Spurs who are challenging for major trophies," said the defender.
During the summer Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas rejected a £25 million bid from Manchester City for the 22 year old and Walker could be the subject of another improved offer from City when the transfer window reopens in January next month, however the right back is adamant he's not looking to leave White Hart Lane.
"It's flattering to be linked with clubs like Manchester United and Manchester City but the truth is I'm very happy to be at a club like Spurs. That hasn't changed since the summer and I'm confident in saying it won't change anytime soon. As I've said I'm very happy and very grateful to be at a club likes Spurs," declared Walker.
"All I can really say is I'm not looking to leave and I'm not interested in leaving," added Walker.
The England international signed a new five year deal back in May which will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2017. Walker has made nine appearances in the Premier League for Spurs this season and is expected to make his 50th Premier League appearance for the North London club tomorrow night when they take on Everton at White Hart Lane, a milestone the defender was unaware of yet proud to be on the brink of achieving.
"I had no idea how many appearances I'd made for Spurs," said a shocked Walker.
"I'm just grateful I get to play football for a living and I know I'm lucky to do something I love everyday of the week for my job. It's a proud achievement and I'll try enjoy the occasion with the home fans, it should be nice, but the only thing that matters tomorrow night is us picking up the three points," said the 23 year old.

The only thing I can think of is a game for the Capital One Cup and one or two for the Europa League. In my news feed the only one I can find being rearranged recently was our upcoming game against Chelsea because of the Club World Cup, but I agree it's very strange and I've never seen it happen before.
Yeah hopefully he can stay fit because he's a great option to rotate with Sandro and Huddlestone.

Tottenham Hotspur and Everton produced a Premier League classic at White Hart Lane tonight as the North London club ran out 5-3 winners with eight different players scoring during the Premier League fixture.
Spurs started their busy December fixture schedule with a victory over Everton tonight at White Hart Lane but they were made to sweat in the end despite heading into the second half with a three goal cushion, late goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Gareth Bale eventually seeing off a spirited fightback from the Toffees.
The win sees the North London club move back into fifth spot on the Premier League ladder and they sit just two points behind rivals Arsenal in fourth spot ahead of the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
In a game that would have pleased neutrals there was plenty of goals, the highest goal scoring game between Spurs and Everton since the Premier Leagues inception producing eight different goal scorers.
The first real chance of the game fell to attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson in the fourth minute, a neat cutback by Sandro at the byline caught the Everton defence flat footed and the Icelandic international should have at least tested Craig Gordon in the Everton goal with his effort from the edge of the area, loud groans heard from behind the goal from Spurs supporters as the midfielders effort flew over the crossbar.
Some 11 minutes later Sigurdsson made amends when he curled a free kick by Gordon after Andros Townsend had been tripped by Marouane Fellaini, the 23 year old netting his third Premier League goal of the season.
The hosts kicked on after taking the lead and doubled their lead eight minutes later, Belgian international Mousa Dembele dribbling from deep and the 25 year old finished with a powerful effort the flew underneath Gordon.
Spurs appeared to have killed the game off just before the half time break when Sandro played a ball into the feet of Jermain Defoe and the striker pivoted in one motion scooping the ball up off the ground before smashing a volley in off the underside of the crossbar from the edge of the area despite close attention from Phil Jagielka.
After the half time break though Everton got a lifeline when midfielder Leon Osman went down inside the area under a challenge from Jan Vertonghen and referee Mark Clattenburg showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot, Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic sending Lloris the wrong way as he pulled one back for the visitors.
There was further cause for concern in the Spurs dugout when Marouane Fellaini made it 3-2 when he beat Kyle Walker to head home a corner from Steven Pienaar just minutes after Gareth Bale had smashed a header of his own against the Everton crossbar. Spurs however responded immediately with substitute Emmanuel Adebayor calmly slotting a side footed effort beyond Gordon after surging past Jagielka.
The visitors however refused to go away and accept defeat, Irish defender Shane Duffy beating Lloris with a powerful header at the back post from a Pienaar free kick. In the end Everton couldn't complete the comeback and as they pushed looking for the equalizer they were hit on the counter, winger Gareth Bale, who is reportedly a transfer target of La Liga champions Real Madrid, racing onto a pass by Walker and the Welsh international finished well with a low drive into the bottom corner to seal the three points for the North London club.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has tipped defender Jan Vertonghen and midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson to become world class players if they stay at White Hart Lane and work hard to improve.
It cost Spurs a combined total of £18 million to acquire Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson during the summer, the pair becoming key players for the North London club under Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Vertonghen, 25, signed a four year deal when he joined from Dutch giants Ajax for £10 million and has become a key member of the Spurs defence. The Belgian international has made 10 appearances from a possible 11 in the Premier League this season for Spurs and the North London club have conceded just eight times in those games.
Whilst the 25 year old defender has been in fine form at the back Sigurdsson has been superb for Spurs at the other end scoring seven times in 16 appearances in all competitions, the 23 year old a huge reason as to why the North London club sit top of their Europa League group and fifth in the Premier League.
Villas-Boas was full of praise for the duo today following his sides victory over Everton last night.
"All the players have been amazing this season, we've turned up to every game and put in good performances. Two players though have stood out because they only joined us a few months ago," said Villas-Boas.
"Jan and Gylfi have been fantastic, we've been surprised by how good they've been. I mean we knew they were both good players and that's why we've gone and spent money to bring them in. In saying that we didn't expect them to perform like this so soon after their arrival, they've both settled quickly and have performed very well. They have all the required skill to become world class players I guarantee you," added the Spurs boss.
"If they work hard and stay at Spurs they'll become world class players, that's an absolute certainty, they could play for any other team in the world and not look out of place," said Villas-Boas.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has dismissed rumours linking him with a £40 million move to Spanish champions Real Madrid when the transfer window reopens in January.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas can breathe a sigh of relief this afternoon after 23 year old star winger Gareth Bale firmly denied reports linking him with a £40 million move to Spanish champions Real Madrid during the January transfer window, although Bale did admit he wouldn't be against moving overseas later in his career.
The 23 year old is a key player at White Hart Lane and a household name around Europe after recent scintillating performances, the most memorable against Inter Milan in the Champions League when Bale made a mockery of Maicon, who was at the time regarded as one of the best full backs in the world.
It's no surprise Bale has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid all known to be admirers of the Spurs winger, although it's believed that the £40 million price tag that's been placed on the 23 year old has to this date deterred those clubs.
Now it appears however that the La Liga champions are set to make their move, recent reports revealing that Real Madrid are preparing a £40 million bid for January when the transfer window reopens, although they need not bother after Bale today dismissed the reports and publicly stated his intention to stay at White Hart Lane.
"It's great to be linked with a move to the likes of Real Madrid and I'm flattered," said Bale.
"I'm not looking to leave Spurs though and I'm happy at White Hart Lane, I've no intention of leaving and I'm not going to force anything through so I can leave. I'm a Spurs player and I'm looking forward to challenging for silverware with this great club, we've got some fantastic players here," added the 23 year old.
"What I will say is I've always maintained that I wouldn't be against testing myself in another big league in Europe one day. That doesn't mean I want to leave Spurs or I will leave in the future, just that I wouldn't be against testing myself in another top league if it was right for me and my family in the future. Who knows if that will ever happen, I don't know and all I'm concentrating on now is winning games with Spurs," declared Bale.

Hannover 96 ended Tottenham Hotspurs unbeaten Europa League run this evening at the AWD-Arena in Hannover as Artur Sobiech netted a first half brace that was enough to see off the North London club.
Spurs couldn't conjure up a memorable comeback tonight as they went down 2-1 against Hannover 96 at a cold and snowy AWD Arena in their Europa League Group H clash. A first half brace from Artur Sobiech gave the hosts a comfortable lead heading into the second half but the visitors should have had a share of the spoils.
With top spot in Group H already assured after winning their opening five games in Group H the North London club could afford to field a much changed side, Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas making wholesale changes to his starting lineup ahead of his sides North London derby with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
The game was a quiet affair until the first goal of the game arrived, Spurs full back Kyle Walker unable to block a low cross from Adrian Nikci on the left wing and 22 year old Polish international Artur Sobiech made no mistake as he powered his effort beyond Brad Friedel with his weaker left foot to give the hosts the lead.
Spurs looked to respond and Clint Dempsey should have done better with his headed effort three minutes later.
Promising midfielder Andros Townsend then disappointingly shot straight at Ron-Robert Zieler in the Hannover 96 goal after neat play from Kyle Naughton had created the chance for the Spurs midfielder. The visitors began to build real pressure as the first half continued, Dempsey clipping the bar with a looping effort and Walker soon forced a fine save from Zieler with a thunderous long range free kick that looked destined to level proceedings.
In the end all that pressure amounted for nothing and Spurs were caught on the counter in first half injury time, Mame Diouf hitting the bar with his effort when through on goal, the rebound easily rolled into an empty net by Sobiech who profited from a huge slice of fortune, the Polish striker in the right place at the right time.
Chance after chance came Spurs way in the second half but some fine goalkeeping from Zieler and poor finishing cost the North London club as they slumped to their first defeat under Portuguese boss Andre Villas-Boas in European competition since his appointment. There was a late consolation goal from substitute Gareth Bale, the Welsh winger poking home a cross from Naughton six minutes from time and although Spurs mounted late pressure they couldn't find the equalizer they needed to avoid defeat in their penultimate Group H fixture.
The performance would have pleased Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas although the result again raised fears about his sides ruthlessness in front of goal. The result tonight didn't matter much in terms of finishing positions in Group H as Spurs had already wrapped up top spot after winning their opening five games, but this Sunday the result will be the only thing that matters to fans in North London, regardless of the club they support.

Tottenham Hotspurs Kyle Naughton believes the North London club deserved more from their Europa League Group H clash against Hannover 96 last night after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the AWD-Arena.
Although top spot was already wrapped up in Group H for Spurs it was clear that manager Andre Villas-Boas still wanted to beat Hannover 96 in their penultimate Europa League Group H clash, the Portuguese boss, who won the competition with FC Porto back in 2011, naming a strong side for the game against Hannover 96.
Kyle Naughton, 24, who played the full game against the Bundesliga side feels Spurs deserved more from the game after they suffered a 2-1 defeat, a late goal from Gareth Bale not enough to inspire a comeback after Polish striker Artur Sobiech's first half brace had given the hosts a shock 2-0 lead at the half time interval.
"I thought we deserved more from the game last night, I thought we were in control for most part of the game and we just didn't take our chances in front of goal. We needed to get off to a good start and we didn't when we conceded, after that I thought we dominated the game and should have scored a few times," said the 24 year old.
"We'll have to improve ahead of the Arsenal game because that will be a much tougher assignment and it's a game that really matters to the fans, the players and in the battle for a top three finish," added Naughton.
Naughton has made six appearances this season for Spurs in all competitions, four of which have come in the Europa League and the 24 year old has impressed many with his energetic displays down the right flank.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale says the entire squad at the club believes they can beat Arsenal tomorrow afternoon when they meet in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium.
The biggest game on the calendar for Arsenal and Spurs fans is less than 24 hours away and this time tomorrow the Emirates Stadium will be full of atmosphere as the North London derby gets under way.
Spurs will be hoping to leapfrog their bitter rivals tomorrow with a win at enemy territory, a win tomorrow at the Emirates Stadium enough to move Spurs back into the top four ahead of the Gunners, something winger Gareth Bale believes can happen, the Welsh international revealing that every member of the squad at White Hart Lane believe they can pick up the three points tomorrow afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.
"Tomorrow will be a really tough game but we can beat anybody on our day," said Bale.
"We know we've got the ability and we believe we can get the job done tomorrow against Arsenal. It won't be easy, it never is in a North London derby and their fans will give us a hostile reception, although we know what to expect, we're all professional and we can deal with that," added the Welsh international.
"Everybody at the club believes we can get the job done and if we put in a good performance tomorrow we'll have a very good chance of moving back into the top four. That of course is the aim this season, we want to at least match what we did last year and if we can improve on that which will be difficult but we're ready for the challenge. You always want to improve and everybody is hungry at this club," said the Spurs winger.
Arsenal will be all to aware of the threat Bale will pose tomorrow and the 23 year old goes into the North London derby with two goals in his last two Premier League appearances. The Spurs winger has scored three times in the Premier League this season and revealed he's feeling more confident now than he did earlier this season.
"I've been playing well recently and scoring goals regularly which is a great feeling. Hopefully they'll keep coming and I can help the team win more games, that's my job really and I enjoy hitting the back of the net," said Bale.
"The only thing that's changed is probably my confidence from the beginning of the season to now, I'm more confident I'll score when I get a chance because I've been working hard in training and that's a great feeling to have before a game. Hopefully tomorrow I'll do well and help the team get the win," revealed the 23 year old.

Tottenham Hotspur came from behind this afternoon at the Emirates Stadium to win a thrilling North London derby against Arsenal as Tom Huddlestone scored late to seal a 3-2 win for Andre Villas-Boas side.
Spurs fans left the Emirates Stadium today buoyant after witnessing their side come out on top in what was a thrilling North London derby, a late goal from substitute Tom Huddlestone inflicting a sixth Premier League defeat on Arsenal, this defeat leaving the Gunners a whooping 13 points of league leaders Manchester United.
The defeat extended the Gunners run of defeats in the Premier League to three and there is no denying there is a crisis engulfing Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger must move quickly to stop it. At times the Gunners looked far from best today in a game they couldn't afford to not perform at their best with an in form Spurs side hungry to inflict further misery upon their bitter rivals on enemy territory.
First blood was drawn by the visitors when Gylfi Sigurdsson arrived at the right time to drive home a low cross from Gareth Bale, the Arsenal defence in tatters as the Icelandic international celebrated his fourth goal in the Premier League this season and eighth in all competitions with the travelling supporters behind the goal.
To the home sides credit they fought back immediately, left back Filipe netting his first goal for the club since his arrival from La Liga side Atletico Madrid, the 27 year old scoring the easiest goal of his career with a tap in from just a few yards out after Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris could only parry a free kick from Santi Carzola onto his crossbar, the North London derby all square again, Spurs lead lasting less than three minutes.
Arsenal improved after they leveled and they were soon ahead through Oliver Giroud although the goal wasn't without controversy, the often maligned Andrey Arshavin played in behind the Spurs defence by a clever reverse pass from Aaron Ramsey and with the offside flag remaining by the assistants side the Russian international squared the ball for Giroud after drawing Lloris off his line, the Arsenal striker blasting the ball home to the delight of the home crowd and manager Arsene Wenger, Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen infuriated by the decision to allow the goal, television replays clearly showed Arshavin had profited from being in an offside position.
That goal knocked the wind out of Spurs sails and they couldn't find their usual attacking rhythm before the half time break, the Gunners leading 2-1 in the North London derby at the half time interval at the Emirates Stadium.
Spurs began the second half with more confidence and they were soon level just past the hour mark when a fine passing move that started from the back with captain Michael Dawson saw Kyle Naughton lay a pass into the path of Sigurdsson who belted a low effort across the body of Wojciech Szczesny and although the Arsenal goalkeeper got his hand to the strike he could only help it onto the inside of his left hand post, the ball crossing the line for Sigurdsson's second and the visitors were level again.
In the end if looked likely the game would finish as a draw until Tom Huddlestone wrapped his foot around the ball from over 25 yards out and put the ball in the top right corner as Szczesny looked on with no chance of keeping the effort out, Spurs victorious at the Emirates Stadium for the first time since November 2010.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone believes beating Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday afternoon was a massive result and proves that the club have closed the gap on the Gunners.
With the North London derby locked at 2-2 and the game approaching injury time Tom Huddlestone took aim from well over 25 yards out and secured bragging rights for Spurs over their bitter rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, the result moving Spurs back into the top four at the Gunners expense.
That goal completed a memorable comeback for Spurs in a thrilling North London derby.
Huddlestone, 25, had made seven appearances in the Premier League for Spurs prior to his introduction yesterday when he replaced Sandro as a substitute just before the second half began, his late winner the perfect way to remind manager Andre Villas-Boas just what he can add to the Spurs side.
The midfielder today spoke of the results importance for Spurs and said the gap had clearly been closed between the two clubs, Huddlestone claiming that certain Spurs player would demand a first team place at Arsenal.
"Yesterday was a huge result for us, absolutely huge and you could see the importance of that win at the full time whistle, just look at the Arsenal players, they were extremely disappointed," said Huddlestone.
"Getting the winner in a game like that was a great experience, I don't think I've hit a ball as clean as that in my entire life and I doubt I'll do it again, but I'm delighted that we picked up the three points. It was a really tough game and that's what we expected before kick off, thankfully we put in a good performance and I think we just about deserved the result, although Arsenal fans will disagree with me I'm sure," added the Spurs midfielder.
"I think we've closed the gap on Arsenal to be honest. We've got a very good squad and some fantastic players that would demand a first team place if they were at Arsene Wenger's disposal, thankfully they're not and it's great to play alongside players like Gareth Bale, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen," said the 25 year old.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has warned his players that they must stop Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson if they're to return to winning ways tomorrow at Stamford Bridge.
Spurs midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is in a rich vein of form going into his sides Premier League clash with Chelsea tomorrow at Stamford Bridge and Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo has warned his players that they must find a way to stop the Icelandic international if last seasons Champions League winners are to get anything from the game.
"We need to find a way to stop Sigurdsson because he's the danger man for us," revealed Di Matteo.
"If we can stop him we'll get something from the game, I've told the players this in private and they agreed with me. Obviously there are other threats like Gareth Bale and we know this, however Sigurdsson is in such good form and will be very confident and I know that a player like that is extremely dangerous," added the Chelsea boss.
The comments aren't surprising following Sigurdsson's brace against Arsenal on Sunday when Spurs came from behind to record a 3-2 win over their bitter rivals in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium.
Sigurdsson, 23, has enjoyed a fabulous start to his career at White Hart Lane since arriving during the summer and he has scored nine times in 18 appearances for Spurs in all competitions this season.
Chelsea head into the game tomorrow following a 2-0 defeat against Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, goals from Sergio Aguero and Marek Hamsik extending City's winning streak in the Premier League at home to seven, the Blues cause not helped when Frank Lampard was sent off five minutes before half time, the 34 year old to miss the game along with John Obi Mikel who is also suspended.
If Spurs win at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night they will move into third place on the Premier League table ahead of Chelsea by one point and will have two games remaining in hand over the Blues.
