Source images should be in their original size (or as large as possible). It's only completed cutout images that need to be at either 250*250px (for when the source image is of good quality) or 180*180px (for when the source image is too small or too low quality).

Here's a thread on how to find the best possible images for your requests. If the images you posted were all as large as this, it'd be much better.
In addition to what weeniehutjr says, if an image is 180x180 and the area taken up by the head is 80x80, then it won't be any good at all, no?
