You're still squashing the aspect ratio compared to the original image. If you're using Photoshop, make sure "Constrain Proportions" or "Preserve Aspect Ratio" is ticked when transforming the image.

When choosing the area to crop, keep the shift button on your keyboard pressed, it will give you a perfect square
